The difference between Solution-Dyed yarns and ordinary yarns is similar to the one when cutting a carrot and a radish.
Solution-Dyed Acrylic
Sunbrella® fabrics are woven exclusively from “solution-dyed” acrylic fibres. The colouring takes place before the yarn is ever created. A liquid acrylic solution is combined with precisely-determined colours, and this coloured liquid is then extruded and transformed into fibre. The fibre never exists in a colourless state; it’s inherently a liquid acrylic-and-colour blend. This fibre is then spun into yarn, using a complex process that prevents colour contamination.
Solution dyeing is only possible with synthetic fabrics since it requires a liquid stage of the fibre. However, the large majority of acrylic and polyester fabrics are either yarn dyed, bath dyed or printed. |

Yarn Dyed
Bath Dyed
Yarn dyeing consists of dyeing the colourless yarn or ecru once spun.
Bath dyeing consists of dyeing the colourless fabric once woven.
The yarn is only coloured on the outside. The heart of the fibre remains white because the pigments have not fully penetrated the yarn.
Even used indoor, the colour of the yarn dyed, bath dyed and printed fabrics are altered by UV rays entering the room through the windows and reflected by the constituent elements (walls, floor, roof etc.). Thus, Sunbrella is also the best solution for an indoor use. |
